Darek Trowbridge

A smiling man with curly hair; background is a solid green circle.

Darek Trowbridge is a fourth-generation farmer, based in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County, California. In 1998 he established one of the first dedicated natural wineries and regenerative farms in California at Old World Winery.  In 2012, Darek began making a composted mulch product for use on his market garden and vineyards to help revive 120-year-old vines that his great-grandfather once tended. The results were so spectacular that area farmers and the Sonoma Resource Conservation District took notice.

This was the genesis of Soil Carbon Management Company. Primordial Biome Mulch is now used on six additional farms and ranches and has a growing waiting list of landscapers, ranchers, and winegrowers.  In 2021, the Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution District, Cal Fire, and Sonoma Clean Power recognized Soil Carbon Management Company’s ability to use waste wood biomass to sequester atmospheric CO2 with an $50,000 award and assistance in permitting and siting.

Darek has a Bachelor's Degree in Viticulture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Chemistry from CSU, Fresno.
