The City of Sonoma was incorporated on September 3, 1883. Historic Sonoma is at the heart of the renowned Sonoma Valley winemaking region and is known for its art galleries and the colonial-era Sonoma Plaza. Surrounding this plaza are significant 19th-century adobe buildings including Mission San Francisco Solano and the Sonoma Barracks, once used by the Mexican military. Shops, tasting rooms, restaurants, bakeries, and a historic theater line the streets around the Sonoma Plaza. Venture beyond downtown to explore brew pubs, more shopping, art galleries, and more.
